Arrival  Lady Jocelyn  -  Lyttelton  -  032
--- commanded by our old friend Captain Jenkins,  78 days out,  arrived in the harbour this morning.   ------

Lady Jocelyn  -  from London  -  037  & 038
Commanded by Captain Jenkins  ---   during the passage   18 deaths,  17 were infants,   and 1 adult,    5 cases of whooping cough --- single girls came out under Matron Miss Dysant  and sub-matron Miss Parker  ----    labourers  from Warwickshure under direction of Mr Thomas Osborne--  the ship left Plymouth  with 655 souls on board  -  554 emigrants,  38 saloon passengers,   and 63 crew.      there were 4 births,    ------  long column ---


Saturday 23 January 1875

Arrived  -  ship  Avalanche -  044
Avalanche with 230 immigrants,   70 for Wellington,  82 days from land to land,  all well,  left for Wellington last night.

Arrived  -  ship BERAR  -  045
The ship Berar,  from London  with immigrants arrived here last night  after a passage of  89 days.  There were 21 deaths from scarlet-fever  and 20 cases still under treatment.   -------

Nelson  -  arrived  ship Michael Angelo -  046
Arrived yesterday,  Michael Angelo,  81 days out from the Downs.  She brings 292 immigrants,  no disease on board.  1 adult and 5 infants died.  Captain Luckie was found dead in his cabin last Monday from heart disease.  A seaman fell overboard and was drowned.

Over 400 immigrants were landed yesterday  by the s.s. Gazelle alongside screw pile jetty and proceeded to Christchurch by special train.


Monday 25 January  1875

Ship CARNATIC -  the immigrants have nearly all left the depot, having received engagements.  Only 1 married couple and 1 single man are left -------

about 450 immigrants were conveyed on Sat. by train to Addington --  the remaining 100 went by ship to Akaroa and Timaru -----
married couples 65 to 70 pounds per annum  and found.
single men  52 pounds  with 5 to 10shillings a week extra during harvest.
married men  25s  to 30s  per week  with cottage
single women domestic servants  25 to 30 pounds  per annum
Nearly the whole of the men by this ship are English agricultural labourers,  chiefly from Oxfordshire and Warwickshire -- the Waimate with a large number of immigrants is now expected any day.


Tuesday 26 January 1875

HUMBOLDT 
-    from Hamburg  -  The ship Humboldt  with about 400 immigrants after a passage of 108 days
COSPATRICK - has the following saloon passengers aboard - Mr & Mrs Reilly, Mr & Mrs Cook & infant,  Messrs Davis, Holloway, Allen, Craig & McKerrow

WAIMATE from London -  057
-----   8 deaths occurred,  7 being infants and 1 adult named George Green,  aged 15,  fell overboard ---   73 single girls under the charge of Miss Wright and Miss Knight, ----- the families 59 couple  and 18 saloon passengers  ------   a very long column  ---


Wednesday 27 January 1875
Ship Waimate  -  060
nearly all immigrants have been landed only 57 families remain onboard most of whom are for Akaroa  -----


Saturday 30 January 1875
Immigrants at Temuka  and Waimate  -  063
The immigrants from the Waimate,  allotted to Temuka are 38 adults ---  within 2 hours of arriving 6 out of 11 men were engaged ---   35 immigrants allotted to Waimate arrived there on Tuesday.
