WATSON  -  a Maori  known as "Old Watson"  was found drowned in Havelock Harbour ---   took an active part in the Wairau massacre  17 June 1843.
RYNING  -  Sygoart, a Norwegian  a gold miner fell  over a high face ---     ------  an inquest will be held tomorrow.
TOBIN  -  Mary  aged 14  was drowned while attempting to cross the Arrow River  on a plank.

PARATA  -  Miranda  mystery solved  -   body reported missing  been identified as missing Native Parata  

Obituary    -  NEILL  - 043
-- an old settler  and digger  one of the pioneers of the Otago goldfields  ------  was followed by a large concourse of mourners  to the Addington Cemetery. 
Mr George Neill  had lived a somewhat adventerous life.  A native of County Cavan.  Ireland,  came to Victoria in the "Great Britain"  ----  after participating
in the Snowy river rush,  he went to Otago in the ship "Blue Jacket"   --- worked on diggings in Otago and Westland  ----   finally settled in Lyttelton.  9 years
ago suffered a paralytic stroke  ---   lived with his son  Mr John Neill  at the Caledonian Hotel  where he died on Friday morning  aged 69 years.  --------
