on Monday last Ferguson,  in the employ of Mr Johnson,  at Temuka  was drowned in the north branch of the Ashburton river.  ----  an inquest will be

On Sunday morning,  a resident at Loburn Mr Martin O'Halloran,  met his death in the river Okuku,  attempting to cross to the other side.  ------

-----  case of neglect revealed in Timaru  on Sunday evening  ------  Coleman,  a storeman,    daughter  a girl of 13,    3 children    a boy  5 years old
 was found to be dead,  a girl 7 years old   was insensible ---  Coleman is a widower  and had 5 children in the house  -----     more ----

Annie,  William  & Mabel Wadsworth  ---- mother was in hospital,  father was a drunken character ---  older girl would be taken into service,  younger children  aged 6  and 3  to the Industrial school  at Burnham  for 7 years.

A fatal accident occurred at Westbrook  in a claim -----  through a fall of earth ---  2 men named McMahon  and Lawrence  were killed.  ------

an accident occurred yrsterday  to a lad of 14 years  named George Dooder,  son of a settler  in the View Hill district,  while playing cricket  ----- 
ball hit him on the leg and broke it just under the knee -----

------   a woman lying dead in Manchester street  near St Luke's Church. -----  named Martha Brown  alias Jones. -----  an inquest will be held.

Helena Robinson,  a little girl of  2years  was burned to death  ----on 10 November  ---- 

Inquest  -  Waitahuna  -  HIGGINGS  -  029b
a  miner named Higgings  was killed last week  by a fall of earth in a quartz claim  at Waitahuna.   -------

A man named John Warner  died somewhat suddenly   -----   at the Market Hotel  where he had been staying ----

The Rev H.E.CARLYON  -  031a,  031b,  031c
Prior ro this gentleman's visit to England  whither he has gone in the ship Waimate,  the members of his congregation  ----  incumbrency  at Kaiapoi  decided 
to bid him farewell  -------  arranged to give the children attending the Sunday Schools a treat  in the shape of a tea ----  The children attending the North
 and South Island Schools were also invited  ----  met at the parsonage ----     Mr Wheeler,  photographer  took photographs  ---  75 girls,  60 boys,
 45 adults  ------  lots  more over 3 columns  -------

Fatal Accident  -  ODDINOTT  -   (inquest has Hoddinott)   032  &  033
A sad accident occurred on the railway -----  name was James H. Oddinott,  was employed as a horse driver  ----     he was 40 years of age  to a day 
(yesterday being his birthday)   and leaves a wife and 10  children totally unprovided for.

Lyttelton    -  STEPHENSON  -  034
John W. Stephenson,  an apprentice on board  the Empress of ------?  charged  with the desertion from his ship --- ordered to be sent on board  his vessel.

Inquest  -  HODDINOTT  -   ODDINOT  -   035
James Hoddinott,  aged 40  lost his life on the railway  ------ witnesses  -   William McNeil,  brakeman,  James Matthews,  gatekeeper,  John Shield, 
horse driver,  Jane Martindale,  Henry Hesketh  and Dr Collins.  ---   yesterday interred in the Weslyan Cemetery -- followed to the grave by about
300 persons  ---  a subscription has been started  for the benefit of the family  -------
